Web18 Nov 2024 · The establishment and expansion of social settlements and neighborhood houses in the United States corresponded closely with the Progressive Era, the struggle for woman suffrage, the absorption of millions of new immigrants into American society and the development of professional social work. The Settlement House moved to a bigger space in 1911 and was named the Abraham Lincoln house (later renamed the Milwaukee Jewish Center). By 1925, cookbook royalties added up to $25,000. Community program support was continued, and the building was renamed the Jewish Community Center in 1931.
